The position is for 25-40 hrs per week to be worked between hours of 7am and 9pm, in agreement between yourself and the employer.

Job Profile

Mosaic 1898 Direct Payments Support Service are assisting a family to recruit a dedicated and confident person to become a Personal Assistant/Carer for their adult disabled son who has complex care needs and epilepsy. He has cerebral palsy, global developmental delays and autism. You will need to support him whilst working alongside one other assistant (2:1 care), and as part of a team.

Working alongside one other Personal Assistant/Carer, you will be required to:
• Manage his personal care (including toileting, showering, oral care etc.)
• Support him to take his medication,
• Assist him with a range of exercises,
• Support him to access the community.
• Conduct daily domestic duties
• Communicate effectively
• Assist in feeding and drinking
• Help manage his Epilepsy
• Assistance in mobility
• Prepare his meals
• Conduct Dynamic Risk Assessments throughout the day

Person Specification

A qualification in Health and Social Care or experience of supporting people with Autism/ Learning Disabilities would be advantageous.
• Non-smoking candidates.
• A full driving licence would be advantageous, so that he can be supported to access the community (but not essential)
• An enhanced DBS check, the cost will be met by the Employer.
• Successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
• Part-time/Fulltime
• Permanent
You will be reliable and trustworthy with the commitment to accept responsibility. You will be comfortable to work on own, as part of team, and with initiative if necessary. You will always be diligent and conscientious.

Communication skills: You must be able to communicate effectively.

Empathy and Compassion: Due to the individuals limited communication skills, understanding and empathising is an important skill and is vital to this PA role.

Patience: it is vital that you utilise patience and take time to understand the individuals body language and varying cues for support.

Flexibility: health needs can change, and routines may need to alter, therefore, you will need to be flexible regarding shift patterns.

Organisation and Time keeping: Time management is essential as routine is very important, especially regarding medication and feeding. The PA would be expected to arrive to shift on time and if there is a delay, the individual/parents are to be notified as soon as possible.
