The changes that are happening to all our services, as well as the wider adult social care community, are happening so quickly it is sometimes difficult to keep the website absolutely up to date but we are doing our best. We attempt to review it every two weeks but sometimes changes take place quicker than that. We want to use the website as one way to get information out about what mosaic can offer and how you can find out more. Things cannot stay the same and in mosaic we will try and make things even better. Other ways of finding out more information is to be on the mailing list for mosaic news (our quality newsletter and to receive our monthly e-newsletter). If you are not receiving these contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Our mission is to deliver information and services that disabled people want; services that promote inclusion, equality, independence, choice, empowerment, respect and dignity.

As an organisation we recognise and challenge the prejudice, discrimination and social isolation that many disabled people face throughout their lives.

We provide a number of services such as a range of day options, Information and Advice Service, Supported Living, Care Agency, Self Directed Support Services in Leicester City, Leicestershire, Rutland, Wandsworth and Nottingham (City). In addition we provide Counselling, Social Groups, Meet and Eat (new service).

We are delighted to report that we have gained a new contract for the provision of Direct Payments Support Service in Nottingham City which includes Employment Support, Payroll Service and Managed Accounts. Find out more about all our Services here.

Consultation – Your Views Are Needed
There are big changes being proposed by Leicester City Council that will affect the some of the services we currently provide.

We hope that you can find the time to respond to this ‘proposed’ consultation by Leicester City Council on ‘changes to adult social care prevention services from the voluntary sector’.

What do we currently do and which services will be affected?
Our Advocacy Service gives a voice to people with Learning Disabilities, so that their views are taken into account when decisions are made about their lives and the support they receive.

Our Information, Advice and Guidance Service raised over £1.25 million for disabled people in the last financial year, through help we provide via our Helpline, help with form filling and appeal work.

What is being proposed by Leicester City Council?
From April 2018 the funding we receive to provide Information and Advocacy Services to disabled people in the City are under threat of being cut and/or drastically reduced, which simply means we will not be able to provide these services for disabled people in the City or it will reduce considerably.

What are we asking you to do?
Let the Council know what you think! There are two surveys to complete. You can complete one or both.

Your say on the proposed cuts to services can be made online here:

Your views on the proposed new wellbeing grant can be made here:

If you would like to complete a paper version of the surveys you can pick up a copy from a city Library, council community centre, or customer service centre or contact City Council by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or request a copy by phone on 0116 4542300.

An easy read version should be available too.

Please note the deadline to respond and have your say is Friday 28th July 2017.

Donations Needed – Sunbeam
Sunbeam is a 51ft Narrowboat used by us to take groups of disabled people and their carers/family, for day trips, along the River Soar in Leicester. We have also taken Sunbeam to festivals, such as the Leicester Riverside Festival and Loughborough Riverside Festival.

We were given Sunbeam in 1978 as a second hand boat with an expected life span of ten years. To enable disabled people to use the boat, we had an electric lift added, ramps installed and we lengthened the boat.

After 37 years, Sunbeam has a thinning hull, which has been patched several times over the years and a number of other problems, which include engine problems. Therefore, our Board of Trustees have made the difficult decision to retire Sunbeam and raise money for a new, custom built Narrowboat.

We are looking for funding for this project and were wondering if you could help us. Any donation would be welcome. If you would like to make a donation, please contact either Suzy or Michael on 0116 2318720. Alternatively, you can send a cheque to mosaic: shaping disability services and include a note/letter explaining that it is a donation for ‘Sunbeam: new boat fund’.

Support Workers Urgently Needed
ColtonCare urgently require Support Workers, hours to suit, to support people in the community in Leicester and surrounding area. Training will be provided. For further information please contact mosaic on 0116 2318720.
